Weathering the Storm in GP3

There was disappointment for Renger this weekend as the infamous Spa weather caused the most exciting and controversial race of the season so far!

Published: Monday 30 August, 2010

After qualifying in 10th position Renger was expecting a decent points finish, at the least, but a torrential rain storm caused chaos on the track. By this point, the Dutch driver had already moved up to 8th but a as the rain hammered down, none of the top ten came into pits for wet tyres.  This meant it was like Usain Bolt doing the 100m sprint on ice!  Many cars spun out and sadly the Mucke Motorsport car of Renger’s was one of them. Eventual winner Robbie Wickens amazingly carried on after a big spin and hit with the pit wall. He finished without a nose on his car but managed to carry on until the chequered flag.

The Sunday race was held in much more pleasant conditions but sadly the sun was not shining on Renger! He started from 20th however it mattered little as the car was covered in fuel as it travelled round the formation lap and Renger was forced to retire before the lights had even gone out.

With just one round to go, let’s hope the magical Monza brings better luck and strong finish to a difficult season.
