Renger Van Der Zande is getting used to having some tough weekend’s in GP3 and sadly this weekend was no exception.
Saturday was certainly not Renger’s favourite day in his racing career! A difficult qualifying meant he started from 22nd for Race 1.   When the lights went out, it was a typical lap 1 crash fest with 3 seperate incidents and 6 cars out on lap 1. Sadly for Renger he was one of those cars after being slammed sideways into the wall by a spinning car.

“There was just nowhere for me to go – I had made a great start and overtaken about ten cars but when I was charging down the side of the wall I saw a red car coming towards the side of me and there was no time and no room!”
That mean the Dutch driver had to start from the back of the grid for Race 2 and thirty cars in front of you is not the view any driver wants on a street circuit.

Two laps later he had moved up four places and a good on-track battle saw Renger trading places several times with Dean Smith.  Towards the end of the race he had advanced to 24th but sadly it was always going to be damage limitation and 24th is where he finished.
