It was a character building weekend for Renger van der Zande, the multi-winner in the F3 Euro Series. Dijon-Prenois was the venue and it proved not a happy hunting ground for the dutch driver!

The gloom became doom in France throughout a difficult Friday which saw van der Zande qualifying 18th. Saturday’s race was short-lived with an over-zealous move catching Renger out on the first lap and causing enough damage to his car to warrant a safety car.  It was an uncharacteristic error from the 23 year old, who gave his team Motopark Academy their first Euro F3 victory at the last round in Barcelona.

It also meant that for Race 2, van der Zande had to start from the back of the grid.  A multi-car crash, which saw the race stopped, was lucky not to have claimed Renger, who was forced wide through the gravel to avoid the carnage.  The race continued in a similar vein with cars off all over the track.  All Renger could do was keep the car on the road, stay out of trouble and capitalise on other drivers misfortune.  He finshed 13th.

The final round of the F3 Euro Series is in Hockenheim in 2 weeks time.
