Renger drives a veiled test in Race 2

After the incident with the fire extinguisher and the sanction that he consequently received from the stewards, there was little to gain for Renger van der Zande in the second race at Oschersleben. Renger, therefore, saw the race as a test to gather more knowledge of the car.

Renger was asked by the Motopark Academy team boss, Timo Rumpfkeil, to join the team and help to improve the car. He managed to do so successfully, but when the fire extinguisher exploded, he could forget about achieving a good result. So there was no racing to be done by Renger on Sunday morning, but it was still a good learning experience.

“Since I had to start at the back of the grid, we decided to pretty much forget about the race itself and test out something new on the car”, said Renger. “I, therefore, allowed a gap to build up so that we could drive laps at our own speed. It was simply a very useful test race. We will continue the tests with the team tomorrow and on Tuesday and, hopefully, we can make the car even faster”.

Renger eventually came fourteenth after a number of drivers were penalized for ignoring the yellow flags.
