Renger brought down by a fire extinguisher

During the first race at the Oschersleben circuit, Renger van der Zande had to deal with a very strange problem. His fire extinguisher went off on the first lap of the race, which resulted in the entire cockpit being covered in foam. Renger’s visor was also covered in the sticky substance, which caused him to drop back a number of places in the race. With the courage of despair, he managed to finish the race, but the chance of a good result was lost.

Renger will be in driving for the Motopark Academy team this weekend and, thanks to his expertise, the team has already seen a great deal of progress. Renger wanted to continue this progress in the race, but luck was not on his side. “This is, of course, extremely unfortunate”, Renger began explaining. “I had an excellent start and was in a good position, but the extinguisher went off on the first lap and, all of a sudden, I could no longer see anything. I did not want to give up, but, obviously, I was not able to continue racing properly. Every time I accelerated, I got covered in foam again. It was all over my visor and it was difficult to get off, because the foam is very sticky.”

“Even though I was able to get the fourth fastest time on the final lap, things could have gone a lot better today.”
