Renger van der Zande, the challenger at Snetterton

Mid-way through the season the British Formula 3 Championship 2009 has become extremely tense. Next weekend the battle of the junior matadors with Formula 1 aspirations will resume with full force at the Snetterton airfield circuit, close to Norwich. Renger van der Zande, the Dutch ace in this motor sport pandemonium, will assume the role of challenger.

Although he joined after the current season began, Renger van der Zande has already acquired the role of challenger in the British Formula 3 Championship. On his debut at Silverstone at the beginning of May he amazed friend and foe by winning his very first race. His adversaries, renowned juniors racing under the smoke of the F1 teams based in England, were ‘upset’, as the British say with their characteristic understatement.
Consequently during the next races at Rockingham he was nudged off the track in the first round – twice. Let’s just put it down to excitement. The weekend in Hockenheim gave him two places on the podium. Consequently, the Hitech driver has certainly left his calling card.
His team-mate Walter Grubmüller now ranks second in the Championship, after Red Bull driver Ricciardo. Although Renger will act in the team’s interest, this weekend he has just one goal – the top step on the podium. 'Fun is everything' is his motto at the moment, as a counterweight to the economic malaise. Once again Renger will, with a wink, try to steal a march on his British opponents.

"I’m really enjoying racing again", according to Renger. "I now live in Milton Keynes, between the Formula 1 teams, and I’m having a great time. I train a lot during the week, and I regularly drive test sessions on the famous classical English circuits. I’m very happy with my foot-on-the-floor motor sports life."

"Once again, I’m the challenger this weekend", according to the eternally optimistic Nijmegenaar.
