On Sunday 24 May ten ill children (RAC racers), with the support of the Racing Against Cancer Foundation, will be invited to a place in the limelight at the go-kart circuit in Oss. Many of us do not realize that on occasion cancer can develop into a life-threatening disease at a very early age. It will be obvious that this has a dramatic influence on the life of children and their families. Renger, a healthy and top racing driver, enthusiastically offered his support to an initiative taken by the Racing Against Cancer Foundation. Renger will offer young, ill children an opportunity to join him in a duo go-kart and experience the thrill of speed he loves.

During an interlude in the official racing day at Oss the children will take turns to accompany Renger on a drive around the circuit – and, where possible, at a hefty speed. The organizers and the Mercedes driver, from Nijmegen, the Netherlands, are convinced that this will be an unforgettable experience for the children and their families.

Although Renger currently has very full programme, much of which is abroad, he will return to the Netherlands specifically for this special initiative. One week later he will be back with the Hitech/Mercedes team, when he will take part in the next race in the prestigious British Formula 3 Championship. In addition, in June Renger will be the crowd-puller at the Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, the Netherlands. However, first he will take part in the go-kart event at Oss.

According to a Racing Against Cancer spokesperson, "It’s great that a driver of the stature of Renger van der Zande has voluntarily agreed to support the event. Renger is one of the Netherlands’ top racing drivers. We understand that he cancelled a visit to the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco to attend – which just goes to prove his class and empathy."
