Renger off to a fast start in “Zandvoort in the desert”

In this debut race in the GP2 Asia series, Renger van der Zande has made a solid showing, qualifying in a very respectable thirteenth place. The Trust Team Arden driver was forced to drive his qualifying run after just a half hour of free practice, and was able to measure up to some established names. Not surprisingly, Renger is a happy man.

“You don’t hear me complaining,” Renger said after the race. “I had never driven this track before and a half hour of free practice is not a lot of time to prepare. I think I was only able to run three laps before time was up. I ran the qualification la[s in my own way and that went extremely well. Each run was faster than the last and the eventually resulted in thirteenth place. I think that we got the most out of the day and I know for sure that we can do a lot more.

“It’s a beautiful track and it reminds me a bit of Zandvoort with all this sand! I’m really enjoying myself here and the working with the team has been going great. I didn’t have any expectations coming into the weekend, so this qualification is just brilliant."

The first race starts Friday morning at 10.00 a.m. Dutch time.
