Renger takes the seventh starting position amid chaos in Macau

Renger saw several of his attempts at fast laps frustrated by yellow-flag situations, but ended up only a half-second short of pole position, which was claimed by his fellow countryman Carlo van Dam.

"As always in Macau, the qualifiers were once again a major chaos", said Renger after the race. The session was interrupted no less than three times with a red flag and the yellow flag came out during some of my fast laps, so I had to ease off the accelerator. I still tried to get a good slipstream, but even though it certainly helped in the straightaways, you then run the risk of getting slowed down in a turn. It was a really good lap and I ended up a half second out, which is about how much you can pick up with a good slipstream…

"Anything can happen in tomorrow’s race, and considering that the race on Sunday is the most important, for tomorrow it’s just a question of finishing. That's because the result of that race determines the starting positions for Sunday. I’m expecting multiple safety car situations and the requisite crashes, so the main thing for me will be to stay out of trouble.”
