Renger angry following 'unacceptable' qualification stage

Renger van der Zande will start the first race in Barcelona in a disappointing nineteenth place. The Prema Powerteam driver had traffic problems in the final phase of the qualifying stage, and this meant he could not improve his previously-set time. Renger is very unhappy with the result and had a heartfelt discussion with the team that sent him out at completely the wrong moment.

“This is a real drama", he began. “In the qualifying stage, you have two sets of tyres and there is still some reasonable weight on top of them because the tank is full up before the whole session. The agreement was to do six laps on the second set of tyres. The team sent me out however, when there was nobody on the track, and as a result, I had trouble in the following rounds with guys who were just coming out of the pits. That was simply a terribly stupid decision on the team’s part and I really am bloody annoyed. I could have achieved a good result and then a mistake such as this is simply unacceptable.”

“Hopefully I’ll have a bit of luck in the race or it might rain a bit, because under normal conditions, it'll be difficult to draw level here."
