Renger fights for the points in front of home crowd

Despite a disappointing qualification, Prema Powerteam driver Renger van der Zande proved his weight in gold at the first race in Zandvoort, racing a fantastic race to finish in a healthy seventh place. Not only will this deliver valuable points, but also a place on the front row for the second race at his home track.

“I’m incredibly pleased,” said Renger after the race. “It wasn’t easy of course, but the reward makes it all worthwhile. I had a great start and managed to pass two other drivers. I was then in ninth place, when my team mate was given a penalty due to a false start. I was already really pleased to be in eighth place, but when someone in front of me went off, it became seventh! Fantastic of course, because it gave me a great starting position for tomorrow and more points.”

“We’re going to go and tinker with the set up of the car”, he continued. “I had far too little grip and it felt like I was driving on eggs. The car was sliding in all directions, but I managed to keep it all together. Tomorrow I’m starting from second place and I’m going for the podium. It would be fantastic to round the weekend off with a bottle of champagne in front of my home crowd!”
