Renger cold-bloodedly takes fifth places in a chaotic second race

Renger van der Zande kept a cool head during a chaotic second race at the Norisring to take fifth position and gain some valuable championship points. In a race where many drivers bumped into themselves or other drivers, Renger proved he is a mature driver and he managed to keep out of trouble. That fifth place was, after a disappointing qualifying round, well deserved.

“It was a very eventful day today”, said Renger. “Everywhere around me, drivers were driving into each other, but I managed to avoid it. There was a big pile-up at the first corner and I was right in the middle of it. However, I was scarcely hit and was one of the very few who managed to keep their engine going. That meant that I was able to continue, so that I did not have any problems during the restart. The restart took place behind the safety car and I managed to pull away well and I immediately gained another place. Later during the race, two more drivers hit each other, which allowed me to gain another place and finish fifth.”

“If I look at how things went over the weekend, I'm very happy with the points I managed to win. On Friday, things were not going so well, but in the races, I was able to show that I am someone to keep an eye on. I managed to gain eighteen places on my qualifying position and we can, therefore, say that we did everything possible from the position we found ourselves in. In two weeks time, we'll be in Zandvoort and, of course, I'm really looking forward to it. The circuit should be more suited to me. So I'm assuming I'll be able to give the Dutch fans something to cheer about!”
