We already know Renger van der Zande is an ace driver. Time and time again, he takes a place on the podium in virtually every monoposto class he competes in – be it Formula Renault 2.0, Formula 3, A1GP or GP2. A high point in his career would have to be last year’s season, when Renger joined Mercedes-Benz Motorsport in the DTM. He was by far the fastest driver handling the Mercedes Jahreswagen in that series. And this year, he added the job of roving TV reporter to his resume.

For most of the 2012 season, Renger has been reporting on the DTM races during two-hour broadcasts on RTL7. And it’s clear from the fun RTL has been having with him that he’s in the right spot. He combines a thorough, in-depth understanding of the world of racing with a lively, light-hearted presentation style. Viewers find the programme particularly exciting thanks to his quick-witted commentary on what’s taking place on the track. And his humorous style also regularly brings a smile to their faces.
Renger: ‘This year, RTL asked me to be one of the commentators for the DTM races. I had to skip a few occasions due to my own racing programme. Actually, I think it’s great fun. When it comes to motor sports, I have enough to talk about, and I try to communicate this specialist knowledge to the racing fans and viewers. On top of that, fans can ask questions via Twitter, which creates a lot of interaction. It’s really great!’
At the moment, Renger’s management is hard at work behind the scenes to make sure that the young driver can strap up in a DTM cockpit again next year – because at the end of the day, that’s where Van der Zande feels most at home.
