Misfortune for Van der Zande at the Nürburgring

Renger in action

Renger van der Zande was unlucky not to score points at the Nürburgring this afternoon, ultimately finishing 11th after an eventful race in the Eifel Mountains. The Dutchman had been set to build on his impressive ninth place grid slot, but sustained a significant amount of damage due to contact with Filipe Albuquerque.“It was a miracle that I was able to keep my car on the circuit,” explained Mercedes driver Van der Zande, who ran well inside the top ten during the early stages of the race. “Filipe Albuquerque drove into the side of me and caused a lot of damage to the car. Although my car was pretty battered, I still managed to deliver fast times. I finally finished as the fourth highest Mercedes driver, which was positive, but more was possible today.”

“The first half of the season is now behind us. I’ve learned a lot and I’m ready to score points. Unfortunately we couldn’t do it today, but I will work hard during the summer break to be ready for Brands Hatch!”

The DTM field will be back in action at Brands Hatch on the weekend of September 3-4.
