Van der Zande excited ahead of Munich DTM event

Renger interview

Renger van der Zande will be travelling to Munich this weekend, with the Dutchman joining his fellow competitors for a unique non-championship DTM event at the Olympiastadion. Despite there being no points on offer at the German venue, the 25-year-old insists he will be trying his upmost to challenge for victory.

“I just had a close look at the track and it is very narrow,” said van der Zande. “The walls are very close, so every mistake will be punished. We will probably only use the first and second gears, but the spectacle will not be affected.

“Although the event does not count for the championship, it will be hard fought and as a driver you always want to win. I have heard that the grandstands will be packed, so hopefully we can give everyone a  day to remember!”

Saturday’s qualifying races will determine who takes part in the finals 24 hours later, with the field being split into pairs to take part in direct duels.
